Duse XV - Akka from the trenches

Hi Scala enthousiasts,

I’m content to announce our next DUSE meetup featuring ‘Akka from the trenches’. We’ll have two speaker teams who present their real-world systems built with Akka and Spray.

18:00 - 18:30: Food & Drinks

18:30 – 20:00: Akka @ NS
Freek Wielstra and Age Mooij from Xebia have built a bulk message system for the Dutch Railways fully based on Typesafe’s Akka stack. After a short introduction of the system they will outline why they chose for Akka, how they applied it and which benefits it offered them compared to a more traditional stack. Finally, they will present various cool and elegant Scala code constructs they used in their application. All in all an excellent opportunity to gain insights in a real-world event driven system, the power and pitfalls of Actors and last but not least a great deal of Scala code.

20:00 – 21:00: Akka & Spray 4 Plot
Dirk Louwers from PlotProject will present how they used Akka and Spray for the backend of Plot http://www.plot-app.com/ , a location aware app that matches supply and demand for everyday needs. You will get an exclusive look in the kitchen of a startup with serious scaling and availability requirements built on Typesafe’s Akka stack that is part of the very core of their business.
